Mending

Mended by Annie Villiers

This is the poem of the week at Scoop review of books. I really liked the idea of a place of mending. I am not a crafty, handy sort of person but I am an A1 darner and “drawn together tenderly/Made new” appeals. I am also hoping to do some mending of fences this week so “Mended” is auspicious.

The poem is from a book called “Parallel Lines: Riding the Central Otago Rail Trail” By Annie Villiers and John Z Robinson. “Robinson is a Dunedin trained artist who, despite being a ‘reluctant traveller’, is a regular on the rail trail. Parallel Lines features twenty three of Robinson’s acrylic collages that sit alongside Villier’s poems.” The review wasn’t overly complimentary about his work in this book and I agreed with the writer that the collage wasn’t suited to  ”Central’s crisp lines” and this picture just seems too green.

It also screams to me of another famous artist (van Gogh?) but I can’t just put my finger on who right now (brain freeze).

I think I could do with the weavers loving fingers repairing the fabric of my life just now. In fact we probably all could from time to time.
